In this example we will use the free chat bot you get in Facebook. To avail a FB chat bot you need to create a page for your business first. Then you can customize the chat bot with simple FAQs and add the code to the Header section on your website.

Follow these steps below to add a chat bot from FB to your website today:

  • Create a Facebook business page.
  • Click on Page setting – this is seen in the left hand menu, Next click on Advanced Messaging,
  • Under the section “General Settings” you can select one of the options you want. I would select the first option – “Responses are fully automated.
  • Next if you are using an external provider you can add the app here under “Connected App”.
For this exercise we will skip this section as we want to use FB’s app instead as its free.
  • Then add your website domain to “white list domains“.

Next scroll up to the top of the menu and select “Messaging”.

Then follow the prompts below to set up your chat bot questions:
Here you have 3 sections to look into.
1. General settings
2. Starting Messenger conversation
3. During a messenger conversation

Fill in in all the sections above properly.

You will also see the direct messaging URL you can use for marketing purposes. This URL will look like this > m.me/YourFaceBookPageName

Next click the link that says “Add Messenger to website.

Here you will need to setup your Chat plugin.
Add your website URL first.
Start the conversation: you are allowed 3 questions here to list.
Next customize the conversations: this will be the color, appearance and how frequent you want messages to go out.

After you complete the Chat Plugin setup from your Page, you can paste the code directly into your website from your preferred website builder:

If you are using WordPress follow these steps below

PS: Make sure you’re logged in to Facebook on your browser and that you’re the administrator of your Facebook Page.

  1. Go to your WordPress homepage and go to WP admin.
  2. Go to the Plugins menu.
  3. Click Add New.
  4. In the search field, type Facebook Chat Plugin.
  5. Click Search Plugins.
  6. Select the Facebook Chat Plugin.
  7. Click Install Now.
  8. Click Activate.
  9. You should now see a tab that says Customer Chat. Go to the Getting Started section and click Edit Chat Plugin.
  10. Customize your Chat Plugin and complete your setup.

Customers can now message you from your website, and your messages will be shown in your Business Page Inbox.

Now you may want a more complex BOT to answer every question a customer has. This is where a paid Chat Bot version may play an important part.

I shall cover posts on that soon.

Until then try this out.
